What is Polypropylene Fiber For Concrete

Polypropylene fiber, also known as engineering fiber, concrete fiber, crack-resistant fiber, crack-proof fiber, synthetic fiber, or plastic fiber, is a high-strength fiber bundle made primarily from polypropylene using a unique production process. Added to concrete or mortar, it effectively controls microcracks caused by factors such as solid-plastic shrinkage, drying shrinkage, and temperature fluctuations, preventing and inhibiting the formation and development of cracks. This significantly improves concrete's crack resistance, impermeability, impact resistance, and seismic resistance. It is widely used in bridge deck and road surface (highway and airport runway) overlays, various applications in mining and tunneling, railways, high-rise buildings, slope stabilization, fire protection, concrete repair, waterproofing of roofs, walls, basements, pools, and rooftop gardens in industrial and civil construction, and various precast concrete products.

Technical Features of PP Fibers

1. Easily dispersed in mortar or concrete, it resists solidification, effectively ensuring its crack-resistant properties.
2. Easy to use; no need to change the mortar mix; simply add the fiber to the mortar mixture and mix thoroughly.
3. Enhanced plastering: Due to its fineness and uniform distribution within the mortar, it facilitates plastering and improves the bond strength between the surface and the substrate.
4. The fiber's chemical properties are stable, with strong acid and alkali resistance, making it suitable for any project.

Construction Technology Of PP Fibers In Concrete:

1. PP fibers do not conflict with concrete aggregates, admixtures, additives, or cement, and require no special mixing equipment.
2. They are easy to use; there's no need to alter the original concrete mix design, nor the original reinforcement ratio, nor can the design's primary reinforcement be arbitrarily reduced.
3. Accurately weigh the fibers according to the designed dosage and the concrete mix volume. After preparing the sand and gravel, add the fibers along with the aggregate to the mixer, extending the mixing time by 30 to 60 seconds. After mixing is complete, randomly sample the concrete. If the fibers are evenly dispersed, the concrete is ready for use. If any fiber clumping occurs, extend the mixing time by 30 seconds before use.
4. The construction and curing procedures for concrete containing polypropylene fibers for concrete are identical to those for ordinary concrete.

Application of polypropylene fiber for concrete

1. Used in basement pouring, interior and exterior wall plastering, hydraulics, electricity, tunnels, swimming pools, and other applications. It improves crack resistance, seepage resistance, and frost resistance.
2. Used in highway bridges, airports, and other projects, it improves impact resistance, seismic resistance, and wear resistance.
3. Used in sprayed mortar and concrete to improve compressive and flexural strength, while significantly reducing rebound loss. Used in mortar and concrete precast components, it improves overall crack resistance and provides effective reinforcement protection for precast corners.

FAQ

Q: Is polypropylene fiber resistant to corrosion, alkali, and moisture?

A: Yes. Polypropylene fiber is 100% synthetic, non-rusting, and highly resistant to chemical attack, alkali, and moisture - ensuring excellent durability even in aggressive environments.

Q: Is polypropylene fiber suitable for all types of concrete?

A: Yes. It can be used in precast concrete, ready-mix concrete, shotcrete, pavements, tunnels, and industrial floors. Its chemical stability ensures reliable performance in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Q: Can polypropylene fiber replace steel reinforcement?

A: Polypropylene fiber cannot replace load-bearing steel reinforcement but acts as secondary reinforcement. It prevents micro-cracks and enhances surface durability, complementing steel rebar structures.

Q: Does polypropylene fiber affect the workability of concrete?

A: When properly mixed, polypropylene fiber has minimal effect on workability. To maintain smooth mixing, add the fiber gradually and ensure even dispersion during batching.
